05 Barcelonette

Today we decided to venture out and visit the local villages. The sun is still shining but first things first, Pietro had to clear the road and of course we supervised...
The temp was 'only' about -1°C and the dog didn't seem to mind that it was a little nippy...when you're just 6 months old, what do you care anyhow?

So off we go to a local village called Barcelonette, in the southern region of Provence-Alpes-Cotes d'Azur, just a hop skip and jump away from Italy.
Notice anything familiar with this mural?

It's a scene from Mexico. As we approach the town, there are big beautiful homes built colonial style by French immigrants having returned from Mexico between 1870 and 1930, after making a fortune in gold mining. Originally a group of French soldiers from this town left for Mexico during a civil strife and stayed, becoming very rich and bringing back with them families and a hispanic culture.
